Hills & Dales Inpatient Pharmacy earns PCAB Accreditation

Hills & Dales General Hospital proudly announces its achievement of Accreditation by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB), a service of the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), for the services of patient specific sterile compounding. The accreditation is awarded in recognition of Hills & Dales inpatient pharmacy’s commitment to meeting and/or exceeding national quality standards.

Achieving accreditation is a process where healthcare organizations demonstrate compliance with national standards. PCAB accreditation reflects an organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting standards that facilitate a higher level of performance and patient care.

“Hills & Dales General Hospital’s inpatient pharmacy is committed to delivering the highest quality compounded medications to the patients that we serve,” said Tim Lowthian, Director of Pharmacy. “By achieving PCAB Accreditation, our patients can be assured that our organization follows industry best practices and is in compliance with the industry’s most stringent national standards.”

Compounding medications is an integral part of the practice of pharmacy and the demand for these customized medications increases every year. Compounded medications are prescriptions that are written by physicians and other legally authorized prescribers and prepared for an individual patient by a specially trained pharmacist.

Established in 2007, PCAB was founded by eight of the nation’s leading pharmacy organizations to create voluntary quality accreditation designation for the compounding industry. The organization promotes, develops, and maintains principles, policies, and standards for improving the quality of pharmacy compounding nationwide. In 2014, PCAB accreditation became a service of Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), whereby ACHC administers the PCAB accreditation program.

Jean Anthony, President & CEO, says, “I am incredibly proud of our inpatient pharmacy staff for receiving this accreditation. Earning these accreditations is not easy and our staff continues to show their dedication to providing quality care to our patients. We have a truly great team here at Hills & Dales and we know that our patients will receive the very best care.”
