Hills & Dales General Hospital is pleased to announce that their Laboratory and Respiratory Therapy (RT) Departments has been awarded their College of American Pathologists (CAP) Accreditation. After an unannounced onsite inspection earlier this year, Danielle Moore, Director of Laboratory, is happy to report, “The inspectors from CAP were very impressed with our hospital and departments. With only a few suggestions for improvement, the inspection results and accreditation are a testament to the hard work we do every day to ensure the highest standards for our patients.”
The College of American Pathologists (CAP) is often referred to as the gold standard in laboratory accreditation. As the world’s largest organization of board-certified pathologists and leading providers of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing programs, the College of American Pathologists serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine worldwide.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management. After receiving accreditation, Hills & Dales Laboratory & RT Departments join more than 8,000 CAP accredited laboratories worldwide.
Jean Anthony, President & CEO, notes “Meeting the stringent CAP standards takes a lot of hard work from every area, it’s not just the lab or RT staff, it is all departments that work together on a daily basis. The accreditation shows that Hills & Dales General Hospital is making patient safety and quality a priority every single day in every department.”
